Charmy Kaur (born 17 May 1987; also spelt as Charmee or Charmi)[2] is an Indian film actress, who has predominantly appeared in Telugu films. She acted with stars such as Venkatesh, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Jr. NTR, Prabhas, Siddarth, Ravi Teja, Sumanth and Nitin.


Early life:

Charmy was born in Mumbai, India and her family is of Punjabi background. She studied in Carmelite Convent English High School in Vasai.

Career:

She made her acting debut in the 2002 Telugu film Nee Thodu Kaavali, in which she acted as a housewife at a mere age of 13.[3] This film was a flop, but helped Charmme in getting noticed by the south Indian film industry. Her next film was Kadhal Azhavatillai with Silambarasan, which was also a flop. During this time she acted in a Malayalam film directed by Vinayan named Kattuchembakam. This film also bombed in box office. After that she acted in a couple more Tamil films but they bombed at the box office.

Her re-entry to Telugu movies happened with a film with Sreekanth which was a failure; then in Sri Anjaneyam, directed by ace director Krishna Vamsi which too was a failed attempt. It was followed by another failure with Chanti, paired against Ravi Teja. She finally got a big break in Telugu with Gowri in which she was paired with Sumanth. She didn't have to look back afterwards. The stupendous success of Mass with Nagarjuna strengthened her position in Tollywood. Charmme's most indistinguishable and critically acclaimed film so far is Anukokunda Oka Roju. It was a heroine-oriented thriller. Her performance in the movie was acclaimed by critics.

In 2006 she acted in Pournami which was a total failure in spite of high expectations, but her performance was appreciated. Though she did not learn Indian classical dance, her Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dances in the film were appreciated by audiences. Later that year she was paired for the second time with Sumanth in Chinnodu but it was not a successful venture. Her next film, Rakhi (with NTR), was a hit. In 2007 Mantra, a thriller with Charmme in the lead role, was declared as a surprise hit.This performance fetched her the Nandi Award for the best herione of 2007. Her performance in the movie is appreciated by wide range of audience.

Then, she starred in several lady oriented roles, a rare thing in Tollywood. The list includes Anukokunda Oka Roju, Mantra, Manorama, Kavya's Diary in Telugu and Laadam in Tamil, out of which Anukokunda Oka Roju and Mantra were very successful.

Career:

Lakshmi Rai initially worked as a model before entering the film industry. She modeled in several ads such as Sylcon Footwears, Josco Jewellers and Emmanuel Silks.

She made her acting debut in 2004 in the Tamil film Karka Kasadara opposite Vikranth. Subsequently she appeared in a number of Tamil films, including the comedy film Kundakka Mandakka (2004) alongside R. Parthiban, Perarasu's Dharmapuri (2006) opposite Vijayakanth, and Nenjai Thodu (2007). In 2008, she starred in the films Velli Thirai and Dhaam Dhoom. Her portrayal of Aarthi Ponappa, a lawyer, garnered a Filmfare Award nomination in the category for Best Supporting Actress.

She then began appearing in Malayalam-language films. She made her debut in Malayalam in 2007, starring in Rock N Roll. She followed it up with 2 Harihar Nagar, Ividam Swargamanu and Chattambinadu. She is currently working on four Malayalam films and one Tamil film

She is probably best known for her critically acclaimed performances in Kushi, Tere Naam, Missamma, Gandhi, My Father and Sathyabhama.

Early Life:

Chawla was born in a Punjabi family in New Delhi, India and completed her schooling there. Her father was an Army officer She moved to Mumbai in 1997 and started her career with ad films and Hindi music video albums. She also appeared in the Zee TV series Hip Hip Hurray


Career:

Chawla started off her film career in the Telugu film industry, starring in the feature film Yuvakudu (2000) alongside actor Sumanth. Her second release, Kushi (2001), in which she starred opposite Pawan Kalyan was a box office success, following which she acted in several films in Telugu, including Okkadu (2003) opposite Mahesh Babu, which became one of the year's highest grossers in Telugu. Meanwhile, she made her debut in the Tamil film industry as well, starring in the film Badri (2001) opposite actor Vijay, which was followed by her second Tamil film Roja Kootam (2002).

After a number of critically and commercially successful films in the South, she starred in her first Bollywood film, Tere Naam (2003), alongside Salman Khan. The film was one of the year's highest grossers. Apart from it, it was a critical success and her performance in the film won her many positive notices as well as several nominations for Best Debut at different award ceremonies. She was nominated for her first Filmfare Best Actress Award, and won the Best Debut trophy at the Zee Cine Awards ceremony.

Subsequently, she got to star in a number of Hindi films as Run (2004), a remake of the same-named Tamil film, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa (2004), again opposite Salman Khan, Silsilay (2005) and Dil Jo Bhi Kahey... (2005) alongside Amitabh Bachchan. She returned to Telugu, acting in the films Naa Autograph (2004), a remake of the Tamil film Autograph and Jai Chiranjeeva, alongside Chiranjeevi and Sameera Reddy. In 2006, she appeared in the Tamil film Jillendru Oru Kadhal, alongside real-life couple Surya and Jyothika, whilst playing a vital role in the Hindi film Family - Ties of Blood, in which she shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, once again, and Akshay Kumar, and starring in the Telugu fantasy film, Mayabazar. Following which, she acted in the Hindi film Gandhi, My Father as Gulab Gandhi and enacted the title roles in the Telugu films Sathyabhama, in which she played a girl that suffers from Short Term Memory Loss, and Anasuya, a crime thriller, and in the Bhojpuri film, Gangotri, a sequel to the successful 2006 Bhojpuri film Ganga, acting again alongside Amitabh Bachchan.

In 2008, she made her debut in the Punjabi film industry, starring in Yaariyan, opposite Gurdas Maan, following which she debuted in Malayalam as well, starring in Bhramaram alongside Mohanlal. Currently, she is working on half-a-dozen films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, which include Thangar Bachan's Kalavadiya Pozhudugal opposite Prabhu Deva in Tamil, Yagam alongside Navdeep and Sathyaraj in Telugu and Classmates, a remake of the same-named Malayalam film, in Hindi.


Personal life:

Bhumika Chawla married her long-time boyfriend and noted Yoga expert and teacher Bharat Thakur on 21 October 2007 at Devlali, Nashik in a Gurdwara.Her elder brother is an army officer.Her elder sister is married. She went regularly to Thakur's courses and is said to have dated him for four years, before eventually marrying him.

Early life:

Meera Jasmine made her debut in the Malayalam film Soothradharan. Soon, she started getting offers from other languages. She has starred in a dozen Malayalam films in her six-year career. Her second film was 'Gramaphone', directed by director Kamal, alongside Navya Nair, opposite Dileep. Her role as a Jewish girl was appreciated by Malayalam cine goers. Her third movie was Swapnakkoodu, a romantic comedy alongside Prithviraj, Kunchako Boban, Jayasurya, and Bhavana under director Kamal. Her performance was appreciated and the movie was a big success at the box office. Among the five main characters, the one who scored the most was again Meera. She got real attention in Malayalam cinema with the movie Kasthooriman directed by her mentor Lohithadas. She acted comedy and sentimental scenes. She received her first film fare award for her performance in Kasthooriman. The film was also a success at the box office: running for 100 days. The same year, she acted in T V Chandran's acclaimed Paadam Onnu: Oru Vilaapam. She played a 15-year-old Muslim girl who was forced to marry an older man. She received not only the State Award for Best Actress but also National Award and several other awards. Then came a performance as Raziya in Perumazhakkalam alongside Kavya Madhavan. In the movie 'Achuvinte Amma'(2005), she enacted the young, adorable character Achu with such an extraordinary ease that she seemed to live the character instead of acting. She then paired with Super Star Mohanlal in Rasathanthram(2006). She played as a guy in the half and the movie went on to became a block buster. The movie was showcased in film festivals and won awards. Her performance as an innocent middle class woman won praise from various corners. Tamil:

Jasmine's Tamil film entry made her a well-known star in the South. The success of Tamil film Run and Bala (2002) has given her the chance to work with the established actors of the Tamil film industry. She won the Film fare Best Female debut actress award for Run. The success of the films led her to work with directors such as Mani Ratnam in Aayutha Ezhuthu and SS Stanley in Mercury Pookkal. Meera has acted in 15 Tamil films.


Telugu and Kannada:

Jasmine became known in Telugu film industry with her first film (dubbed from Tamil) "Run". She was in the Telugu films in 2004 with Ammayi Bagundi and Gudumba Shankar but also entered Kannada cinema by co-starring with Puneet Rajkumar in 'Maurya'. Her Kannada film 'Arrasu' again with Puneet Rajkumar and Ramya aka Divya Spandana is a hit. Her forthcoming Kannada films are Devaru Kotta Thangi and Ijjodu.

Controversy:

She offered prayers at Raja Rajeshwara temple at Taliparamba in Kerala where the entry of non-Hindus is prohibited. This led to a controversy and sparked off a protest by Hindu devotees. Later, she paid Rs. 10,000 as penalty to the temple authorities to conduct the purification rituals.

Kavya Madhavan (Malayalam: കാവ്യാ മാധവന്‍) is a popular Malayalam and Tamil film actress. Kavya Madhavan was born on September 19, 1984 in the village of Nileshwaram in Kasargod district, Kerala, India, to P. Madhavan Shyamala. She did her schooling at Nileswaram Rajas High School and entered the film industry as a child artist. She learned dancing during her school days and participated in competitions and won prizes. She was a Kalathilakam in a Sub District Schools Youth Festival.


Movie career:

She first appeared as a child in Kamal's film Pookalam Varavayi (1991). Her talent was soon recognized, and she was offered other projects. When she was in ninth standard, she got an offer to play as a heroine in Lal Jose's film Chandanudikkunna Dikkil, which became a super hit.

After her leading role, she became popular in the Malayalam film industry. It has been claimed that she is the busiest female star in Malayalam.

Kavya’s films include Mizhi Randilum, Dosth, Madhura Nombarakattu, Sadananthante Samayam and Meesa Madhavan, of which the last movie bagged a record collection in the Malayalam film industry. Her other films include Chakkara Muthu, Iruvattam Manavatti, Annorikkal, Kochi Rajavu, Aparichithan, Perumazhakkalam, Gaurisankaram, Runway, Athisayan, Chakkara Muthu, Thilakkam and many more.

She was married to Nishal Chandra, but filed for a divorce from her husband due to personal issues. She is now back into films and has started acting again.

Career:

Born and brought up in Hyderabad, India, Poonam Kaur did her schooling there as well, before doing fashion designing at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi. In 2006, after her studies, she signed up for a film to be directed by Teja, which didn't take off for reasons unknown. However, she instead took up the offer for another Teja film, Oka Vichitram. Even before the release of that film, Kaur was lying the lead role in another Telugu film, Mayajalam, which, in fact, released first.

Subsequently, she appeared in several Telugu film as Nikki And Neeraj, enacting the title role of Nikki and Souryam, alongside Gopichand and Anushka Shetty. For her performance in the latter, Kaur received a nomination for the Best Suuporting Actress Award for 2008. She made her acting debut in the Tamil and Kannada film industries, with S. A. Chandrasekhar's Nenjirukkum Varai and Bandhu Balaga, respectively. In 2009, she made a comeback in Tamil with the highly anticipated Unnaipol Oruvan, a remake of the 2008 Bollywood film, A Wednesday!, in which she played a small supporting role alongside legendary actors Kamal Haasan and Mohan Lal.

Renuka Menon is an Indian Malayali film actress, who has appeared in various South Indian films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.

Career:

Menon made her acting debut in the 2002 Malayalam film, Nammal directed by Kamal, which went on to become a blockbuster at the box office. Subsequently, she stepped into the Telugu film industry with the film Valliddaru Okkate, and in 2005 into the Tamil and Kannada film industries as well, through the films February 14, alongside Bharath, and News opposite Upendra, respectively. Later that year, she starred in another Tamil film, Daas alongside Jayam Ravi. However, none of the films succeeded.

In 2006, she acted in the Malayalam film Vargam, pairing up with Prithviraj again after Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum in 2003, which was an average grosser, following which, she appeared in the Tamil film Kalabha Kadhalan opposite Arya and in the multi-starrer Pathaaka. The latter remains her most recent release, after which she left for the U. S. for higher studies and got married later. Her film Madhan, directed by actor Jai Akash, starring himself and Sunaina, has been pending for a long time and is expected to release in late 2009 after years-long delay.

She bagged the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress Award in 2002 for the film Nandanam and again in 2005 for her performance in films Kanne Madanguka and Saira. Navya is a good dancer as well. She acted opposite Dileep in many successful films. Navya Nair is now well established in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada film industry. There are around 50 movies to her credit.

She stepped to Tamil films through Azhagiya Theeyee. She has acted in films like Amirdham, Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy & Pasakkiligal. "Gaja" is her debut movie in Kannada.

Personal life:


She comes from a village, Muthuukulam, in Alleppey District. She was the school topper in her 10th standard, scoring 92 per cent. She got her first offer for the film 'Ishtam' when she was in 10th. Due to her second film offer, she didn't fare well in the +2 exams. She then graduated with a BA in English.

She has won the honour of Kalathilakam in the youth festival of Alleppey district. Daughter of Mr. Raju, working with the Telecom and mother Veena, a teacher with the M.S.M High Secondary school, Navya was a 12th student at M.S.M High secondary school when she entered the film industry. Investigative director K.Madhu is her uncle. She married Mumbai-based businessman, Santhosh Menon, on January 21, 2010.

Early Life:

Ranaut was born to Asha, a school teacher and Amardeep, a businessman. She has an elder sister, Rangoli and a younger brother Akshit. She was born in a small town called Bhambla in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her family lives in Mandi.

She did her schooling in Chandigarh from DAV model school Sector 15. She then moved to Delhi to become a model. She also joined the Elite Modelling Agency situated in Delhi in 2003 with the prospect of becoming a model.

Theatre career

Ranaut started her career as a theatre actor in Delhi with the Asmita Theatre Group[4] She trained under eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur.[5] She participated in his theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and acted in several plays. Her first play with Arvind Gaur was Girish Karnad's Taledanda (Rakt-Kalyan).

During September 2005, Hindi film-maker Anurag Basu spotted her having coffee in a cafe in Bombay, and offered her the leading role in Gangster, written by Mahesh Bhatt, and she accepted it.[6] Released in 2006, the film became both critically and commercially successful and her performance was especially applauded.[7] This was followed by another acclaimed performance in Woh Lamhe (2006).

Later, Kangna starred in yet another Anurag Basu project, the hit film Life In A... Metro, as a confused girl who is looking for a real love. Her performance in the film earned her rave reviews. She also starred in Shakalaka Boom Boom (2007) as an aspiring singer. Her next film, Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Mugdha Godse, was released in 2008. The film, portraying the dark side of the fashion world, was a critical success, and Ranaut's portrayal of a supermodel who loses everything on drug abuse gained her widespread praise, fetching her various awards, including the prestigious Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Her last successful film was a thriller Raaz - The Mystery Continues with Emraan Hashmi. The movie has been a commercial success and was declared as first reasonable hit of 2009.Her next release was Vaada Raha with Bobby Deol.Ek Niranjan was her second project in the South. Ek Niranjan is a Telugu Film directed by Puri Jagannadh, the director of the movie Pokiri, whose previous film 'Pokiri' has been remade in Hindi as Wanted.
